Curved text is one of those little design details that instantly makes your graphics look more intentional and high-end. Whether you’re designing Pinterest pins, Instagram posts, posters, or product covers, learning how to curve text in Canva is a must.

Quick & Easy steps to Curve text on Canva

Step 1: Add Your Image or Background

Start by opening your design in Canva and adding your photo or background. In the example above, I’m using a cozy matcha image, and I’ve added the text “great” in Noto Serif Ethiopic” font; but this works for any design and any font.

Step 2: Open Canva Apps

At the bottom menu, tap Apps, then search for Curve Text. Canva has a few text tools, but the Curve Text app is the one you want for smooth, clean curves.

Step 3: Type Your Text

Enter the word or phrase you want to curve (short text works best). Canva even tells you that previews look best with 35 characters or fewer, which is perfect for titles and accents.

Step 4: Choose Your Font & Style

Pick your font, then choose how you want the text to appear:

Fill only

Outline only

Fill + outline

In this example, I used “fill only”. You can also adjust the color to match your design aesthetic. In this example, I adjusted the color to white later on

Step 5: Adjust the Curve

This is the fun part. Use the curve slider to bend the text upward or downward. Positive numbers curve one way, negative numbers curve the other. Play around until it looks just right.

Step 6: Add It to Your Design

Tap Add to design, then resize, rotate, and position your curved text directly on your image.

To get the final design, I added a second text “MATCHA” and curved it in a different direction.

Ta da!

This gorgeous looking design was created.

Final Tip

Curved text works best when it’s used sparingly. You can use it for headings, labels, or decorative word, not long paragraphs. A little curve goes a long way and instantly elevates your design.

If you’re creating content regularly, this is one Canva trick you’ll find yourself using again and again.
